Matt Erickson, LCSW, Clinical Director
Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Utah State University and then completed a Master of Social Work degree at Brigham Young University. He has been a therapist in a residential setting since 1999. He started as a therapist at LRA in May 2002. In April 2006, he became the Clinical Director. He continues to work with a small caseload of students while running the clinical department. Trained in sandplay therapy and play therapy, he runs a weekly sand play group. Matt specializes in working with students with social skills deficits, NLD, Asperger's, video game and internet addiction, low motivation, and depression. Matt loves spending time with his wife and 3 young boys. He also enjoys nature, mountain biking, sports, and working in his yard.
Mont Criddle, LMFT, Residential Director
Mont earned a B.A. in Family and Human Development in 1997 from Utah State University. He then earned his Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1999, also from Utah State University. Mont's clinical experience while at Utah State University included working with clients at the Family Life Center on campus and also working with clients on the adult services team at Bear River Mental Health. Following his graduation, Mont worked for Southwest Center Behavioral Health in Cedar City, Utah. Mont worked as a member of the youth services team at Southwest Center for seven years. During that time, Mont worked with youth clients of all ages in individual, family, and group therapy. He helped facilitate summer camps for both boys and girls during his time there. He also worked closely with community agencies such as the Division of Child and Family Services, Juvenile court and probation, the Guardian Ad Litem, and Iron County School District, as well as many other groups and individuals. While living in Cedar City, Mont also worked with adults, families, and adolescents in private practice and for LDS Family Services. Mont recently began working for Logan River Academy and is excited for this new opportunity in his professional life.
Prior to Mont's clinical experience he worked with adolescents and families in a variety of settings dating back to his time in High School in the late 1980's. Through Mont's family and professional experiences he has developed a great love and respect for people and the challenges that families often face. In particular, he has gained a great appreciation for families that are struggling with the issues often associated with adolescence. Most of Mont's free time is spent with his wife Marnie and their three children, Mariah, McKayla, and Mason. They enjoy swimming, being outdoors, going for walks, going to the park, and getting treats as often as possible. Mont also enjoys all types of athletics, reading, music, pencil drawing, and going to any kind of sporting event with his four brothers. Monte is a "junior" and therefore often goes by the name "Mont" in order to not be confused with his father Monte Sr.
Katie Behm, LCSW
Katie Behm joined Logan River Academy’s clinical department several months after Logan River opened for business. She has been enthusiastically serving the youth and their families at LRA since it opened. Her clientele at LRA have had a range of issues and concerns including mental health troubles, problems with authority, difficulties within the family system and issues surrounding grief and loss.
Katie dedicated her life to raising her family before entering into her career as a licensed clinical social worker. She received her undergraduate training from Utah State University and her Master’s degree from Walla Walla College in the state of Washington. Her university work was spent in the social work field where her focus was with the person in their environment. She is fully aware of how the individual is impacted by their school, family, church and community systems. Interfacing with these systems are part of what makes us who we are.
Katie began her working career at Hospice of Cache Valley, functioning within the framework of grief, loss, and family dynamics. Katie also has worked as an intern within the school system.
Katie draws from her experience as a parent and grandmother in working with families and students. She is highly aware of the concept of choice / accountability and the positive power that comes from knowing you have the knowledge and ability to do what needs to be done in creating a joyful and successful life.
In Katie’s spare time she enjoys gardening, hiking, and reading. She does spend much of her time with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.
Austin Wood, LMFT
Austin grew up in Sandy, Utah and attended college at Utah State University. Austin received his BS and MS degree in family and human development from Utah State University. Austin did his graduate research work on therapists’ use of personal therapy and how therapists manage stress in their personal lives. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Utah.
Austin has experience working in the field of domestic violence where he has worked as a shelter manager at a domestic violence shelter for women, he has worked in private family therapy outpatient clinics doing individual and marriage counseling, and with troubled adolescents since 2001 and has experience working with juvenile sexual offenders, learning difficulties and behavioral problems such as ODD, Conduct Disorder, ADHD, and impulse control problems.
Austin’s therapy approach is a combination of experiential and cognitive/behavioral models that emphasize the role of the family in the adolescent’s life and maximizing the supportive nature of family relationships. Self-esteem, taking responsibility, accountability, and developing adequate coping skills are important aspects of his approach to helping adolescents change. Austin’s strengths in therapy are that he is patient, easy going, and cares about adolescents creating a successful future for themselves. Austin is married, and he and his wife have three young girls. He enjoys playing the piano, golfing, fishing, camping, softball, racquetball, and gardening in his spare time.
Margaret Oak, LMFT
Margaret Oak brought her clinical experience and double-jointed thumbs to begin working with Logan River Academy families in October of 2004. Margaret began early working with families in a variety of settings, including child abuse prevention, early childhood education, community literacy efforts, multicultural initiatives, gerontology studies, and child care initiatives.
Throughout her school years, she participated in various performing groups and has sung and danced all over the U.S. and Europe, even appearing on ESPN. Margaret worked with the Sexual Offenders Research and Treatment team during her undergraduate education and was published in her senior year.
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Human Development with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, she lived in Italy for a few years where she soaked up the culture and gained a love of Italian life and language. Margaret later earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Her internship experiences included work with victims of violent felonies and later with a general outpatient population at a family support center.
These practicums afforded her opportunities to gain experience in pioneering work with trauma and women’s issues, as well as family dynamics and other relational challenges. Margaret has enjoyed working with adolescents and their families to chart a new course toward satisfying and healthy family systems and lives while confronting specific struggles with behavior, substance issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, adoption issues, etc.
She has also appreciated the opportunity to sit on many regional and state policy and legislative boards to improve the delivery of services to families in her area. She remains active in the community as an educator, teaching parenting classes and working with local churches, organizations, and municipalities to assist teens and their families as they progress through life’s challenges.
Margaret chairs the Cache Valley Literacy Coalition, which organizes an annual Literacy Festival at which thousands of children are rewarded for achieving their reading goals.
She has lived in Alabama, Washington, California, Idaho, Italy, and now dabbles with decorating, gardening, entertaining, and remodeling in her Logan, Utah home. She also loves to travel, throw pasta parties, and spend time with her family.
Maureen Olsen
Maureen has been with Logan River Academy since June 2005. As the Clinical Services Coordinator, she helps the therapists organize their paperwork, send progress letters to families and educational consultants, and maintain the clinical records. She is responsible for setting up weekly phone calls between students and parents, as well as keeping the schedule of all visits and airline flights that students make. Maureen takes great pride in her work and her ability to multi-task. She enjoys working with the therapists and being a part of the clinical team.
Maureen spent much of her childhood in New York, where her father taught at West Point Military Academy. She spent a lot of time in Canada with her grandparents, and prior to living in Utah, she lived in Germany.
In her spare time she enjoys camping, scrap booking, shopping with her three daughters, and getting together once a month with her “BUNCO” group.
Krys Oyler, LCSW
Krys attended Utah State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Family and Human development with a minor in sociology. During this time, Krys became acquainted with Logan River Academy. Krys spent three years working on a number of different units and in development where he grew to care a great deal for the youth he worked with. Krys left Logan River and received his Master’s degree from Brigham Young University in Social work. He spent his internships at the Family Support and Treatment Center with individuals who had suffered many forms of trauma. He is also trained in sand play therapy, runs our adoption group, and specializes in in adopted teens and attachment issues. Krys has been married for 8 years and has two daughters. He enjoys golfing, eating, and talking loudly.
Cameron Armstrong, MSW, CSW
While Cameron was getting his Bachelor's he worked at a number of residential treatment centers. He was a manager on a Girls unit for four years at Heritage Schools Inc and then left Heritage to help start Telos where he was a supervisor of the unit staff. Because of these experiences he has a deep love for working with teenagers and decided he wanted to become a therapist at a residential center.
Cameron received his Bachelor's degree in behavioral science with an emphasis in psychology at Utah Valley State College and then graduated from Brigham Young University's Masters of Social Work Program. Cameron has had many different opportunities to further his skills as a therapist at ScenicView Academy, a residential Center for Adults with Learning disabilities and at the Utah State Hospital's forensic unit. Both of these places offered rewarding experiences, but he missed working with teenagers. Cameron decided to join the Logan River Academy team in 2007.
Cameron enjoys doing many different things such as playing drums, guitar and piano (in that order) reading books, watching movies and playing sports. He also loves spending time with his wife and their three children.
Shannon Kegerries, LPC
Shannon Kegerries graduated from Pittsburg State University with a BS in Psychology. She received her Masters of Counseling from Pittsburg State as well. Shannon has worked with families in a Truancy Diversion Program including kids who were at risk of being placed out of home due to truancy. She also worked with families and teens that were involved in state custody. Specifics of her work were to reintegrate families and children, where the child had been removed from the home. She was also involved with the court system making recommendations regarding families and their clinical needs. This work has led her to deal with adolescents with varying clinical issues, but a great focus on ADHD, Aspergers/Autism, Bi-Polar, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Personality Traits. She likewise helped parents develop a skill set for dealing with teens with these disorders along with medication management with psychiatrists.
Having just moved to Utah, Shannon is excited to learn to ski. She also loves jogging, hiking, fishing, baking and traveling. She and her husband share their time together with their Shih Tsu, Rydel. Shannon loves sushi and cheesecake!
Mike Davies, BA
Adventure Coordinator Mike graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Sociology, and upon graduation has pursued his passion for the outdoors. He has worked as an environmental educator and camp counselor with youth in Washington State, guided rafting and hiking trips in Glacier National Park, as well as taught skiing for eight years in Montana where he became the Children’s program coordinator at the ski school. With his move to Utah he hopes to continue to share his love for outdoor recreation with the students of Logan River Academy.
