Therapeutic Boarding School

Logan River Academy is a residential treatment center; however, it has many similarities to a therapeutic boarding school as well. This is due to the strong academic component offered by LRA. Therapeutic boarding schools are typically geared for students who are having difficulty in a traditional school setting, but don’t require the intense clinical intervention offered by a residential treatment center. Therapeutic boarding schools emphasize school while still offering some support for students with minor behavior problems or students that have graduated from a residential treatment setting and can succeed in the less structured environment. College preparation is typically emphasized in therapeutic boarding schools, as at Logan River Academy. As most therapeutic boarding schools can handle mild behavioral or emotional problems, Logan River Academy can provide educational and therapeutic programming for a broader range of students by individualizing treatment plans and programming. Simply, students with mild to more severe issues have the support and appropriate environment to succeed. This is accomplished through specialized dorms which group students by their needs, as well as individual treatment plans. As indicated in the residential treatment center information, when it comes to programs, one size does not fit all. However, some schools compartmentalize the programs to offer multiple sizes. This is the approach taken by Logan River Academy.

It can be a challenge evaluating the differences between boarding schools, therapeutic boarding schools, and residential treatment centers. It can be a challenge to know which setting offers your child the best opportunity for success. There are professionals such as therapists or educational consultants who can help you with these issues, or feel free to contact our admissions staff who are happy to help. We can also refer you to one of these professionals if you like.
